Just listening to a Film Programme Special on BBC Radio 4, investigating the developing acknowledgement among film makers that there is a really healthy audience out there for movies for and about people in their Prime Time; for example, Quartet, Robot and Frank, King’s Speech, Marigold Hotel, and the wonderful Meryl Streep vehicles including Hope Springs, It’s Complicated and Mamma Mia, etc. My favourite film of 2012 was the standout French movie, Untouchable. Get the DVD or download it if you don’t have a local screening – it’s definitely worth it for an unsentimental and often very funny look at disability, race and relationships.
We are really enjoying Mary Catherine Bateson’s book for Prime Timers – Composing a Further Life. It has a great sub-title: The age of Active Wisdom. That’s us – the active wise of our society!
